Pleasure in Practice

Complete Workshop and Home Practice Guide

How to use this guide:  Part One recaps exercises from the workshop so you can revisit the instructions at home. Part Two is your ongoing home practice guide, organized into three tiers of depth. Begin with Tier 1 and spend at least two weeks there before moving deeper. The goal is never performance. It is presence.

PART ONE   -   WORKSHOP EXERCISES

Exercise 1  Eye Gazing (Tratak)   5 to 7 min

Sit cross-legged facing each other, knees touching, hands resting open. Hold soft eye contact and gaze into your partner's left eye. Breathe naturally. When the mind wanders, return to the eyes and the breath. The instruction is simple: see your partner, and allow yourself to be seen.

At home:  Begin any intimate encounter with 2 to 3 minutes of eye gazing. It creates a completely different quality of presence before touch begins.

Exercise 2  Synchronized Breath and the Wave   7 to 8 min

Sit back-to-back, spines touching, hands interlaced. Begin with alternating breath: one inhales as the other exhales. After a few minutes, shift to simultaneous breath, both inhaling together, both exhaling together. Add a gentle spinal wave rippling upward from the base on each exhale.

At home:  Use synchronized breath during intimacy whenever you feel disconnected. Even three shared breaths can bring you back into the same space.

Exercise 3  Yab-Yum, the Sacred Embrace   7 to 8 min

One partner sits cross-legged; the other sits in their lap facing them, legs wrapped around. Hands on each other's hearts. Feel the heartbeat. Breathe together. Visualize energy rising up the spine on the inhale and cascading down the front of the body on the exhale, a continuous loop between you.

At home:  Use yab-yum as a reset posture mid-intimacy. Pause, find this position, breathe together for a minute, then continue. It transforms the energy of what follows.

Exercise 4  Sensate Mapping, Conscious Touch   8 min

One partner lies down; the other kneels beside them for 4 minutes, then switch. The giver traces slow, deliberate paths across the receiver's arms, hands, face, neck, and scalp with no erogenous focus. The receiver places full attention on the sensation: temperature, pressure, texture. The giver moves as if learning a landscape for the first time.

At home:  Open intimacy with 5 to 10 minutes of sensate mapping before anything sexual. It floods the nervous system with presence and changes what follows.

Exercise 5  Energy Orgasm, Building and Circulating Shakti   7 min

Stand facing each other, feet hip-width, knees soft. Begin a gentle pelvic rock, forward on the inhale, back on the exhale, letting it grow into the whole spine. Add mula bandha: squeeze and lift the pelvic floor on the inhale, release on the exhale. Visualize warmth rising from the pelvis to the crown and cascading back down, a full energetic loop.

At home:  At moments of peak arousal, pause all movement and do 5 to 6 breath-lock cycles to spread energy upward through the body. This extends and deepens the entire experience.

Exercise 6  The Erotic Map, A Desire Conversation   10 min

Sit facing each other. One partner completes two sentences aloud: "Something my body loves is..." and "Something I would love to receive from you is..." The listener receives in silence with no reacting, no promising, just witnessing. A second round uses: "Something I find hard to ask for is..." Then switch roles.

At home:  Build a standing pre-intimacy ritual of two sentences each before any touch begins. Speaking and being heard is itself an act of intimacy.

Exercise 7  Tantric Still Point, Non-Doing Intimacy   10 min

Lie together in stillness, spooning or facing each other. Absolute non-doing: no stroking, no movement, no agenda. Simply feel the warmth and weight of each other's presence. Notice where you are touching, where heat collects, what subtle sensations arise without any stimulation. Breathe naturally and separately.

At home:  After lovemaking, rather than separating, hold this stillness together for 10 to 15 minutes. This is where the deepest integration occurs and where oxytocin reaches its natural peak.

Exercise 8  Chakra Body Scan, Partner-Guided Meditation   10 min

One partner lies down; the other sits beside them and guides them through the 7 chakra centers using voice and a hovering hand, warm presence just above each energy center from root through crown. Invite the lying partner to breathe into each area and simply notice what is there. Switch after.

At home:  Use this on evenings when one partner wants connection but not stimulation. It is complete, intimate, and deeply settling without requiring any physical contact.

Exercise 9  The Mirror Practice, Self-Witnessing   10 min

Each person stands alone in front of a mirror for 3 minutes and simply looks, not critically, not admiringly, just witnessing. The instruction: look at yourself the way you would look at someone you love. Then return to your partner and spend 2 minutes each sharing one thing you noticed.

At home:  Do this before intimacy occasionally, especially after periods of disconnection or self-criticism. Being witnessed by your partner after witnessing yourself creates a vulnerability that no other practice reaches.

Exercise 10  Sound and Vibration, Toning Together   8 min

Sit facing each other or in yab-yum. Begin making a sustained, low vocal tone, a shared hum or om. Feel the vibration in your own body first, then let it harmonize with your partner's naturally without forcing. After 3 to 4 minutes of toning, drop into complete silence together for 2 minutes.

At home:  The silence after shared toning lands completely differently than silence alone. Use this as an opening ritual for your weekly pleasure date to bring both partners fully into the body.

Pleasure in Practice

Part Two   -   Your Home Practice Guide

Ten practices in three tiers. Start with Tier 1 and stay there for at least two weeks before going deeper.

Tier 1   Start Here   Daily or anytime   |   low barrier   |   build the foundation

1.  Morning Shakti Breath   Daily   |   3 minutes

Upon waking, before getting up, take 10 deep belly breaths with a slow exhale. On each inhale, visualize golden warmth pooling at the base of the spine. On each exhale, let it rise one vertebra at a time toward the crown. This primes the energy body for the day and trains the breath before the mind takes over.

In the bedroom:  Use 3 to 5 rounds of this breath as a grounding ritual before intimacy begins. It brings both partners out of their heads and into their bodies.

2.  The Appreciation Exchange   Daily   |   5 minutes

Each evening, each partner shares three specific appreciations: one about the other's body, one about their character, one about something they did that day. These are not compliments. They are precise, slow, and received in silence. The listener does not deflect or respond. Tantra treats being truly seen as an erotic act.

In the bedroom:  Begin intimate encounters by sitting facing each other and exchanging one appreciation each before any touch. It shifts the entire frequency of what follows.

3.  The Tantric Kiss   Anytime   |   2 minutes

Before a kiss becomes passionate, pause at the moment of first lip contact and breathe together for 30 seconds, lips barely touching, no movement. Feel the subtle warmth and energy exchange at that point of contact. Let the kiss begin only when it arises naturally from the stillness, not from habit or urgency.

In the bedroom:  Make this the opening ritual of any intimate encounter. The restraint builds charge. What follows will feel entirely different.

Tier 2   Go Deeper   Weekly   |   more vulnerability

4.  Self-Pleasure as Meditation   Weekly   |   20 to 30 minutes

A classical tantric practice reframed: solo intimacy with full presence, no fantasy, no goal. Eyes open or softly closed, attention entirely on sensation in the body. If the mind wanders to imagery or outcome, return to breath and physical sensation. The purpose is to learn your own energy landscape so you can share it with your partner.

In the bedroom:  After practicing solo, spend a few minutes noting one thing you discovered. Bring that into your next desire check-in with your partner.

5.  The Boundary and Desire Check-In   Before each intimate encounter   |   3 minutes

Before any intimate encounter, each partner answers two questions aloud: "Tonight my body feels..." and "Tonight I would love..." No negotiation, no pressure, just information shared as an offering. This dismantles the guesswork that quietly erodes spontaneity in long-term relationships.

In the bedroom:  Do this sitting up, facing each other, before any physical contact begins. The posture matters. It signals that this is a real exchange, not a formality.

6.  Chakra Touch Sequence   Weekly   |   20 minutes

One partner lies down. The other places a warm, still hand on each of the 7 chakra centers in sequence from root through crown, holding each for one full breath cycle before moving to the next. No massage, no movement: only warm, conscious presence. Switch after.

In the bedroom:  Use after conflict, or any time one partner needs to feel held without words. It is a complete practice and one of the most deeply settling things partners can offer each other.

Tier 3   The Advanced Container   Monthly or as needed   |   full-range tantric energy

7.  Sensory Deprivation Bath   Monthly   |   20 minutes

Draw a bath, turn off the lights, remove all sound. Float in complete darkness and silence for 15 to 20 minutes. This is a classical pratyahara practice, a withdrawal of the senses, that dramatically heightens body awareness. Couples who do this separately and then come together report that touch feels entirely different afterward.

In the bedroom:  Do this on the same evening, each partner alone first. Come together in silence afterward and begin with the chakra touch sequence. Do not speak for at least 10 minutes.

8.  The Sacred No   Practice anytime   |   10 minutes

One partner makes a small intimate request; the other practices declining warmly: "Not that, but I would love..." This trains both partners that boundaries are part of the erotic container, not a rupture of it. Rotate roles. Practice receiving "no" as attentively as giving it and notice what arises in the body when a request is declined.

In the bedroom:  When "no" is safe to say, "yes" becomes far more meaningful. Use this regularly, not only when issues arise.

9.  Edging with Breath   During intimacy

Agree in advance to pause three times at moments of rising arousal. Stop all movement, hold each other, and take 5 synchronized breaths before continuing. Each pause redistributes energy through the whole body, breaks goal-orientation, and deepens the eventual experience. Classical tantra calls this riding the wave rather than crashing it.

In the bedroom:  Signal the pause with a gentle hand on your partner's heart rather than words. This keeps the energetic container intact while communicating clearly.

10.  The Post-Intimacy Seal   After lovemaking   |   5 to 15 minutes

After lovemaking, one partner places their hand on the other's heart and the other places theirs on top. Hold for at least 5 minutes in complete silence. This seals the energetic exchange, allows the nervous system to integrate, and lets oxytocin reach its natural peak. Most couples miss this window entirely by reaching for their phones.

In the bedroom:  Treat this as non-negotiable. It is not a luxury. It is where the deepest bonding occurs. Many couples report the seal becomes the part of their intimate life they look forward to most.

A final note

Tantra is not a collection of techniques. It is a quality of attention. Any of these practices, done with full presence, is tantra. Any of them done as a performance or obligation is not. Begin with one. Stay with it long enough to feel something shift. Then let it lead you to the next.
